ARE YOU AWARE OF THE RISKS OF HAVING LEGIONELLA IN YOUR DRINKABLE WATER?

Legionnaires' disease is caused by a type of bacteria called legionella. Legionnaires' disease can be very serious and can cause death in up to 12% to 15% of cases.
Legionella bacterium is found naturally in the environment, ususally in water. The bacteria grow best in warm water from 20 to 45ºC, like the temperature found in showers, hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, or parts of the air-conditioning systems of large buildings.
People get legionnaires' disease when they breathe in a mist or vapour (small droplets of water in the air) that have been contaminated with the bacteria. For example breathing in the steam from a hot shower that has not been properly cleaned and disinfected.
People most at risk of getting infected and sick are; the elders, smokers, or those who have a chronic lung disease (like emphysema), those who have weak immune systems from diseases like cancer, diabetes, or kidney failure, or those who take drugs to suppress the immune system (like after a transplant operation or chemotherapy).

LEGISLATION (LAWS)

The order by decree 909/2001 was brought out in Spain in the year 2001. It is now compulsory to do a yearly disinfection on all circuits, related with hot water sanitary systems and cold drinkable water, in places such as: Hotels, hospitals, geriatrics, campsites, gymnasiums, sport clubs, jails, enterprises .... With the Generalitat (Regional Government of Catalonia) decree 152/2002 it is established that certain enterprises that have been authorised by the Generalitat (now eight) revise their instalations every four years. The order by decree 865/2003 introduced some changes to 909/2001. The last legislation is the decree of the Generalitat 352/2004.

SERVICES GIVEN BY "AGUA AGUA"

"AGUA AGUA" is a company authorised by the Generalitat to carry out disinfections annually, and to prepare and update the compulsory registration book.
Our qualified engineer can give you free information service on topics of legionella and drinkable water. We also disinfect installations such as: Water towers, health resorts, hydrotherapy baths (spas), cooling towers, evaporative condensers, humidifiers, etc.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I CAN NOT CARRY OUT MY ANNUAL DISINFECTION BECAUSE MY HOTEL / CAMPSITE IS OPEN EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR?

Do not worry. "AGUA AGUA" has the solution. Since February 2003 the decree 140/2003 has authorised the use of chlorine dioxide, a powerful disinfectant for the use in drinkable water. In the United States, chlorine dioxide has been used since 1994 in drinkable water plants, and in Germany it is also used. The advantages of chlorine is that you only need a small quantity (between 0,1 and 0,3 mg/litre), this amount is sufficient to carry out a disinfection. It is normally necessary between 1 and 2 mg/litre of chlorine to undertake an annual disinfection to prevent legionellosis. (The maximum legal amount is 1,0 mg/litre of chlorine in drinkable water). ..

That is why a chlorine disinfection can only be done if it is guaranteed that no-one will drink water while the disinfection is in process.) Another advantage is that chlorine dioxide is efficient if its pH level is from six to ten, while chlorine on its own can only maintain its pH efficiency if it is between seven and eight. Chlorine dioxide is a dangerous gas that can not be put in storage, that is why it is manufactured in small amounts and it is added to the water according to its needs. It is manufactured by using hydrochloric acid and sodium chlorite. With a chlorine dioxide generator, you will fulfil the (compulsory) annual disinfection without any discomfort to your residents and you will also have the reassurance that at any time you will have complete sterile and germ free water.

WE INSTALL ALL TYPES OF AUTOMATIC CHLORINE BATCHERS (DOSIFIERS)

HYDROLYSIS WATER TREATMENT FOR COOLING TOWERS

We use the lastest generation technology that is available in the Spanish market. Our teams are based in the automatic production of oxidizing products that come from water itself (hydroxyl radicals, atoms of oxygen, ozone molecules) and the ionization mineral (through copper ions). These technologies make the refrigeration system water 100% chlorine free, but not only that, they are also free from other disinfectants with all the advantages that these involve.
Due to the appearance of infectious sources of legionella in cooling towers caused by the resistance of the bacteria to chlorine, other chemical products and the difficulty in maintaining the system because of the use of these chemical products, the hydrolysis equipment is more efficient.
Allow us to describe briefly the benefits and the reasons why your decision to install a hydrolysis equipment in your cooling tower is a correct decision.
- To eliminate the use of chemical products and the costs associated with the maintenance, transport and security.
- To reduce the quantity of water consumed in the refrigeration circuits. When you eliminate the use of chemical products inside the circuit, you eliminate the need of throwing out considerable quantities of water constantly that reduces the concentration of organic solids and minerals in the system. Though it will be less the circuit will still need a purge.
- To eliminate the discharge of toxic products and/or contaminated unwanted water.
- The oxygen produced by the hydrolysis equipment will progressively eliminate the incrustations and subsequently prevent them from forming in the refrigeration circuit.
- With a hydrolysis equipment you will be able to control efficiently algae, fungus and bacteria.
